Custom printed PE protective film lets distributors and manufacturers turn a consumable into a brand asset: your logo, contact details, removal instructions, or cutting guides printed on every roll, with 1–3 color printing at no significant cost premium at production volumes. This article explains what is possible, what artwork you need to prepare, and how OEM/private-label film programs work in practice. Kaisyon Industrial, a China-based PE protective film manufacturer, runs OEM and private-label programs with 1–3 color printing, free artwork proofing, and a low MOQ for first orders, so distributors can launch a branded film without holding heavy inventory.
Why Print on Protective Film?
Protective film covers every square meter of your product from the factory floor to the end customer. That makes it the most visible surface your brand owns during the entire supply chain. Distributors use printed film to build brand recognition in markets where the end buyer never sees the packaging; manufacturers use it to carry handling and removal instructions right where crews need them. Because the film is discarded at the end, printed instructions travel with the product instead of getting lost in a crate of paperwork.
What Can Be Printed
| Printing Option | Typical Use | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Logo / brand mark | Brand recognition | 1–3 colors; repeat interval of your choice |
| Contact details | Reorder driver | Phone, email, website repeated along the roll |
| Removal instructions | Reducing residue claims | “Peel within X days of installation” |
| Cutting / drilling guides | Fabrication efficiency | Printed lines match routing or drilling patterns |
| Sequential batch codes | Traceability | Links every meter of film to QC records |
| Advertising space | Revenue or co-branding | Sell print space to coatings or tooling partners |
How the OEM / Private Label Process Works
Step 1: Define Your Specification
Start from the surface you protect: tack level, film thickness, width, and roll length. If you are unsure about tack, our selection guide walks through the decision factors, and we will mail samples for testing on your actual surface.
Step 2: Prepare Artwork
Print areas are typically a repeating pattern along the roll — for example a 400 × 200 mm logo block every 500 mm. Vector artwork (AI, EPS, PDF) with PMS color references produces the cleanest result; high-resolution raster files (300 dpi at full size) are acceptable. Keep fine text above 6 pt and avoid solid ink coverage behind adhesive-side markings.
Step 3: Proofing
You receive a printed proof or a photo of the first trial roll for approval. Check color match, repeat spacing, and — importantly — that printing has no effect on film performance. Print sits on the outer (non-adhesive) face so it never contacts your product surface.
Step 4: Production and Reordering
After proof approval, your specification and artwork are stored on file. Reorders repeat exactly — same tack, same print, same batch traceability — with lead times typically 7–15 working days. Most distributors start with one or two SKUs (their best-selling tack level and width) and expand the printed range as volume justifies.
Practical Considerations
Minimum Order Quantities
Printed film MOQs are typically a few rolls of a given width — not the container-load levels distributors fear. Because printing happens in-line or immediately before winding, the setup cost is modest and amortizes quickly at production volumes. Plain film and printed film can often share a single production run for mixed-container shipments.
Print Durability
Printing must survive the same environment as the film itself — outdoor staging, transport friction, and UV exposure. We use inks rated to match the film’s UV stability so the print does not fade while the film is still doing its job. For extended outdoor dwell, we recommend UV-stable film as covered in our storage and exposure guidance.
Intellectual Property
Your artwork remains yours. A proper OEM agreement should state that the supplier prints your designs only for you, keeps your files confidential, and destroys printing plates or files on request. Kaisyon works with distributor brands across export markets and treats artwork confidentiality as a standing contractual term.
Who Benefits Most from Printed Film?
- Importers and distributors building their own brand rather than reselling anonymous commodity film;
- Fabricators (ACP, glass, metal) who want their name visible on installed material until handover;
- OEM manufacturers shipping parts to line-side assembly, where removal timing instructions prevent residue claims;
- Coating and mill operators who need batch codes printed in-line for full traceability.
